How to Grow and Care
Elongated Cactus is easy to care for. It is one of the most commonly sold indoor cacti because of its popularity among beginners. They are often sold with bright straw pink or yellow flowers hot-glued to their spires to add colour. Many growers prefer to gently remove the fake flowers or allow them to fall off as the cactus grows.
This cactus is a full sun plant that requires well-drained soil. Plant Elongated Cactus in an unglazed clay pot that allows excess moisture to evaporate. It will grow best in a good cactus potting soil or you can make your own.
Caring Tips
- Light: Place your cactus in direct, bright sunshine. They enjoy the sun but can become sunburned in direct sunlight.
- Watering: Allow the soil to completely dry in between waterings. Overwatering can cause root rot, so water sparingly, particularly in the winter.
- Soil: Use a cactus or succulent potting mix that drains properly. A sand or perlite mix works effectively to prevent waterlogging.
- Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer, but avoid fertilizing in the winter.
- Pruning: Using clean, sharp tools, remove any dead or broken parts.
