Description
Puna sp. ‘Nova’ or also called Maihueniopsis nova is a small creeping cactus. It has numerous globular or slightly elongated stems of a dark green color. From the very downy areoles spines come out, that fade in color from dark gray to whitish, almost transparent. The plant has thin and soft radial spines, and thick and rigid central ones
Environment
A slow growing species, this plant needs regular watering during summers and should be kept dry during winters. A sun loving variety, it grows and glows better under full sun. During the hottest hours it is advisable to shade it.
They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
This species is found in an extremely arid environment, it grows among barren rocks and sands where no other kind of vegetation can survive.
